Campaign Story
* Typical cost of capstone projects (including registrations, travel and supplies) is about $1200.
* I am trying to raise $600 as family and school will cover the rest.
Goals for My Fundraiser:
Supporting my capstone project
*** I plan to pursue the project though participation in TSA activities like competitions and community service. ***
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that helps students explore STEM through hands-on projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.
What is ‘Social Justice RPG Adventure’
Develop a role-playing game that integrates social justice narratives, where players navigate challenges surrounding racial equity and community harmony. The game features branching storylines inspired by anime storytelling techniques.
Why I am pursuing this project (My why)
- I am a ‘Community Builder’ personality type person with strong ‘advocate’ business potential.
- I’m a big fan of social justice and anime, and I’m pretty great at coaching video games. So, I decided to use these passions to create a video game that focuses on social justice issues. My hope is that it’ll help promote racial harmony and make people think a bit more deeply about these issues..
My plan of action: Competitions and Activities
Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to join:
TSA – TSA offers technical competitions and project-based learning opportunities, particularly in fields like software development and design, which are ideal for a game development project with social impact.
FBLA – FBLA provides a strong foundation in business skills, leadership, and communication, aligning well with the student’s strengths in delegating, listening, and building consensus.
Competitions
This introductory competition emphasizes storytelling, creative audio production, and communication skills, which are key for developing a social justice narrative within the RPG adventure.
FBLA – FBLA Business Ethics
This introductory competition focuses on ethical challenges in business, paralleling social justice dilemmas. It provides a platform for exploring ethical decision-making which is relevant to the project’s themes.
This advanced competition allows the student to design and implement a software project. It can be adapted to prototype interactive elements of the RPG adventure, merging technical coding skills with creative storytelling.
This advanced competition emphasizes strategic planning and entrepreneurship. The project plan for the RPG adventure can be framed as a business plan that outlines market research, funding, and implementation strategy.
Community Service:
Social Justice Media Workshop
Why it fits: This community service activity enables the student to engage directly with local youth and community members, using media as a tool to explore and discuss social justice issues, which ties into the passion project theme.
Implementation: Partner with local community centers or libraries in zip code 30084 to organize interactive workshops where participants learn media production and storytelling focused on social issues. Plan sessions in the Fall for preparation and execute the event in the Spring.
Skills Development: Community engagement, digital media skills, leadership, collaboration
